Dr. Jessica Weafer
Research Assistant Professor
Dr. Weafer received her PhD from the University of Kentucky under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Fillmore and completed her postdoctoral training at the University of Chicago under the mentorship of Dr. Harriet de Wit. Dr. Weafer’s current research combines behavioral and functional neuroimaging methods to examine poor inhibitory control and associated frontostriatal dysfunction as a cause and consequence of drug abuse. Another focus of her research is aimed at identifying sex-linked determinants of risk for alcohol abuse in heavy drinking women. In the long-term, she hopes to gain a clearer understanding of the mechanisms that put impulsive individuals at increased risk for drug abuse, with the ultimate goal of enhancing prevention and treatment efforts.
